Chinese Medical Association
(CMA) Publishing House is an organ whose main task is to publish national
medical periodicals of different specialties and general medicine.
Up to November 1999, the journals published by the CMA numbered 67,
the largest series of medical journals in China and even in the world.
The publisher, as an influential professional setting of its kind
in China, has 27 editorial and publishing offices and an advertising
company, with a total of 142 staff members. Of the 67 journals, 20
are edited and published at the CMA headquarters and 47 by local branches
of the CMA, medical universities and colleges, or research institutes,
entrusted and supervised by the CMA.
With the support of noted medical and pharmacological specialists
and reliable sources of information in China, the publisher's medical
journals have their own outstanding editorial committees and teams
of peer-reviewers. In more than 80 years, the publisher has created
a set of systems of management in editing and publishing medical journals
and publishing medical journals and trained a large number of editorial
staff of its own. Eminent medical professionals and skilled editors
have made every endeavor to keep the CMA serial medical journals in
the forefront in disseminating the latest medical information and
scientific achievements and in orienting scholarly activities and
progress in medical sciences, hence the most authoritative periodicals
in the medical field of China. The data from a study in 1990 showed
that the CMA medical journals are core journals in their specialties
and listed foremost.
The CMA series of medical journals are not only the leading source
of information for medical and health personnel and scientists in
China, but also a window to the outside world. The 67 journals are
distributed to approximately 60 countries and regions in addition
to a long existing exchange relationship with more than one thousand
foreign medical journals. The CMA journals as the representatives
of the CMA play an important role in domestic and overseas scholarly
exchange.
The CMA Medical Journals Publisher is active in domestic and international
communication. In 1982, the Department of Editing and Publishing,
the predecessor of the CMA Medical Journals Publisher, cooperated
first in China with the American Medical Association to publish the
Chinese Edition of the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA).
In 1988, the Chinese Edition of Archives of Ophthalmology followed
suit. In 1998, the Chinese Medical Publishing House, cooperated with
the British Medical Association to successfully publish the Chinese
version of the British Medical Journal. These cooperations have promoted
the scholarly exchange and friendship between the Chinese and foreign
medical professionals, which is highly appreciated by the Chinese
medical circles.
The publisher's Scientific Committee, a consulting body, is composed
of veteran editors or erudites. It helps directors of the Publisher
supervise managerial affairs, editing and publishing, and journal
quality, and formulate principles and rules for quality control, management,
and professional training. The committee has 4 subcommittees on key
words, international system of units (SI), statistics, and standards.
The publisher's affiliated offices include production and circulation,
proofreading, photography, typesetting, and Beijing Huakang Advertising
Co. Typeset by computers, all the journals published by the CMA headquarters
are printed with high quality paper. The advertising company aims
to provide better service to the clients. The high academic quality
and wide coverage in specialties of the CMA serial journals and their
large circulation have attracted more and more clients both at home
and abroad.
The CMA Medical Journals Publisher cordially hopes to cooperate
with friends throughout the world for the flourish of medical publishing
and the development of medical sciences. |
